What People Say About Kurt

“I met Kurt through his brother Connor about ten years ago. When he left Kurt and I alone we had a dance off (ask Kurt for the full story, he tells it well, it’s short). Connor and I were lifting buddies in college then; however, I never made nor sustained substantial gains because we didn’t do it the right way. We were sleep deprived and nutrition… let’s not go there… not to mention training was mildly consistent at best.
In 2018 I got serious about exercise and physical health, at which point I expressed interest in powerlifting to Connor who reconnected me with Kurt for Remote coaching. We started in Nov. 2018 and my PRs were 360, 265, and 455 on squat, bench press, and deadlift, respectively (lbs). Even without gyms for about ⅓ of this year, I was still able to make gains in all three lifts with Kurt’s guidance.
My most recent meet 10/31/20 Monsters Bash in Maplewood, MN:
Squat – 480lbs
Bench – 330lbs
Deadlift – 573lbs
Whether keeping me accountable with training and nutrition, to working with me based on equipment and time availability, injuries, and secondary fitness goals, Kurt has been a great coach, friend, and mentor.
Above all, Kurt is an educator and knows his stuff. If you enjoy the theory, philosophy, and details of training and growing, Kurt won’t hesitate to walk that path with you.”

“After a couple months of weight training on my own, I met with Kurt a couple of times to get some advice and help sort out the form on the main compound lifts. It was a great choice – I was completely new to weight training, and his advice on form and programming gave me instant progress in my lifts and the ability to keep on progressing longer term. I told him what my personal fitness goals were, and he came up with a good program that was compatible with them and worked well for me. His programs are tough, but rewarding, and if you put in the work you get a lot out of it.
I’m a graduate student in math, and unfortunately it’s often the case that very talented mathematicians make poor teachers or communicators. Kurt puts up some serious numbers as a lifter, but also excels as an instructor and coach, which is a rare quality. This means you can trust his advice, and he communicates it well so you can implement it on your own. On a personal level, he’s good-humored and easy to get along with, making the workouts both enjoyable and productive. I’d recommend working with him if you have the chance.”

“Huge fricking thank you to Kurt at Lakeshore Barbell creating a program that allows me to work through my lower back condition spondylolithesis. He has been very available and supportive for any questions or concerns I had. There was a lot of handholding and patience for a while there!
“The last couple years has been some of the most frustrating for me athletically. My deadlift alone was horrible 4 months ago when I started the program. We had to scale back to doing deadlifts 1 set a workout at 275lbs for 5 reps and we slowly built up to more of an advanced program to 400lbs for 3 reps. I couldn’t be happier about where I am at and I am looking forward to hitting 500 in the future!
“Thank you very much Kurt! I can’t say enough about how appreciative I am. This relief/gains has been huge for my mental and physical health! Looking forward to more gains!

“I’ve been training with Kurt for almost a year in order to improve my overall fitness. I am an active person with many triathlons, runs, and obstacle courses under my belt. Before strength training I was in the slow group of my training partners but now I’m in the fast one. I used to run 10 minute miles but now I run a mile in 8:50. I won 3rd place in my age group at the Road America Cancer Run! I went from deadlifting 95lbs to 205lbs, squatting 65lbs to 165lbs, and benching 65 to 92.5 lbs. Kurt is a positive trainer. He pays very close attention to form to ensure there are no injuries while pushing me to my full potential. I would recommend anyone who wants to be fitter and perform at a higher level to strength train with Kurt!”

“I started training with Kurt to improve my posture. I was having a lot of aches and pains especially after working on the factory floor at the end each work day. After working out with him for several months my posture was fixed and my aching body no longer was in pain. Kurt has shown me strength training was the solution to my problems. I train 2-3 times a week with him and he’s always pushing me to get stronger even when I don’t feel like adding weight to the barbell. I lift more weight now than I ever thought I could! He knew how important being strong was to my health and fitness. Kurt calls it “preventative maintenance”. I’m equally convinced it is! I’ve recommended Kurt to a few of my coworkers and I’d recommend him to train you as well!”
