Recover from Workouts the RIGHT Way

There’s a lot of information out there about recovery. Whether that’s foam rolling, contrast baths, saunas, adjustments, workouts, etc. what to do to recover from training has become confusing. The reality is it hasn’t changed since humanity has existed.

The RIGHT WAY: Proper sleep and nutrition.

In order to recover from workouts, you need to be sleeping 7+ undisturbed hours of sleep every night and be in a slight caloric maintenance or surplus with adequate macronutrients.

Chiropractic adjustments, massages, massage guns, foam rollers, hot/cold baths, saunas, etc. are all good things but they cannot supplement proper sleep and nutrition.

HOWEVER, if one of the above methods help you relax, do them. Just be smart about how and when you do them.

For example, a powerlifter should time when they get adjusted by a chiro just after a competition. The same lifter should get massages at the same time in their training schedule. Contrast baths, saunas, foam rollers, massage guns are all fine if they make you feel good. Just don’t spend too much time doing them. Spending 30 minutes on the foam roller is a waste of time, as an example.

Remember, your focus should be on getting proper sleep and nutrition, not all that other stuff.
