Coach’s $0.02: Train to Perform

For most people training for aesthetic purposes will result in no results. The length of time it takes to see noticeable changes can be frustrating. This is especially true if someone is weighing themselves daily or every other day, looking in the mirror daily and not seeing what they want to see. Sure, weekly progress pictures and bodyweight checks can mitigate the frustration but it’s still frustrating for most. On the otherhand if they change focus from aesthetics to performance, frustration goes away and aesthetics come along with it. Training to perform becomes a distraction from the mirror and scale. If performance is defined as getting stronger, this means weight on the bar increases. For the weight on the bar to increase, muscular hypertrophy, aka muscle size, must increase. Increased muscle size will result in improved body composition, which means better aesthetics. Focus on performance and looking better will come as a result without the frustration.
